Baklava is a must in many Middle Eastern families and it sure is delicious. Usually it is bought from the bakery, but it tastes even better homemade! This time, I cheated a little bit and bought the puff pastry pre-made.

To make the baklava you'll need:

  • Puff pastry
  • 1 egg
  • Whipped cream
  • Pistachio
  • Arabic syrup or concentrated milk

Start by leaving the frozen puff pastry out for a 10-20 minutes to make the plates soft. The pastries have to be cut into halves, so they'll look like thin rectangles.

Wrap the puff pastry around two spoons like above (you can also use metal cones.) This trick will make sure that the pastries can be filled with whipped cream. Crack an egg and brush the pastries before leaving them in the oven for 15-20 minutes - make sure they look like the ones above.

Decorate with whatever topping you like and you're ready to serve. I'm using the Arabic syrup topped with more pistachio (yum!)

Enjoy!
